Frugal Gardening....

I have showed you how we start seeds at our house so that we do not have to buy plants for our
garden. A packet of seeds cost less than the price of 1 tomato plant. Below is the plants we grew for last years garden. This years are already started but most of them are still germinating so the picture is not all that exciting.



As the country has come into tough economic times, most families have had to figure out new ways to make ends meet. Gardening just may help your family get though some tough times. Even if you have never gardened before, this may be the year to give it a try! Even if you do not have much room! You can start with just a few tomato plants and some lettuce in pots on your patio. OR... dig up the grass in a sunny spot next to your house. You will be amazed at what you can grow!

If you really do not have the money to purchase many seeds, check out someplace like the dollar store or Rite Aid. They usually sell seeds 10 for $1.00. They are not the #1 seeds in the world but they will do just fine for a first time gardener.

If you think this may be a new hobby for you and you want to do it every year, you may want to invest in a few packs of Heirloom seeds. With heirloom seeds, you can save the seeds from the veggies you grow and use them to start next years garden! We order our Heirloom seeds from here.... Seed Savers Exchange. Each year we order a few new packets so that eventually we will have strictly heirloom.

We got our starter pots from someone who saved flower pots for a few years and listed them on free cycle. We use the same ones... year after year. BUT... do not let the lack of starter pots stop you. Make your own pots from newspaper. Go here to learn how.... YouTube - Newspaper Seed Starter Pots.

Each kid will receive a pair of Sprinkle-Vision glasses with red lenses that will allow them to view the codes. Kids can enter the codes online at www.IWannaGoToFriendlys.com to win fantastic prizes and try their luck at taking over the Friendly’s virtual ice cream factory.

The cherry on top? To celebrate the event, Friendly’s will be offering great meal deals including $1.99 kids meals and $3.99 big kid meals from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. to encourage friends and family to join in the fun without breaking the bank. Porch project.. COMPLETED!!

And now it is finally completed!! Yeah!!

Of course we still need porch furniture, and need a new walkway and landscaping. Those things will be our spring projects!

Saturday night in out house is "Adult Grill Night". The kids go to bed to watch a movie at 8pm and Dh and I grill something yummy and have a few drinks. Our Frugal date night.

"Adult Grill Night" just got tastier at out house! Last Saturday we tried Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce. I had a steak and DH had a gourmet burger. Both were topped in Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce. I loved it! It added a tasty seasoning to my steak. BUT.. DH loved it so much he said "That is so good, you could just drink it straight from the bottle!" I think I will skip drinking it from the bottle but I will have it on my steak again next week!

Country Bob's All Purpose Sauce is now going to be a stocked pantry item! I would even buy it when it is not on sale!!

Homemade Taco Soup.....

In my quest to find new meals for the family, I came across a recipe of Taco Soup. It is these simple ingredients........

Put the browned hamburger in the bottom of the crock pot and sprinkle the taco seasoning and ranch dip mix on top of the hamburger. Drain and rinse the cans of beans and then add them to the crock pot. Pour the entire cans of corn and tomatoes on top. Cook on low for 8 hours.

Top with sour cream and cheese and serve with a side of tortilla chips.

Tuesday... whole chicken, baked potato, peas

Wednesday... Ham, broccoli and cauliflower

Thursday... Whole wheat pasta with home made sauce and left over chicken
