Discount grocery store.....

I went to the book fair at my kids school this afternoon. While I was out using gas, I decided to drive 3 miles farther to see what deals I could find at the discount grocery store. This is a tiny little store run by the Amish and it is way out in the country. You never know what you will find there. They have some dented cans and boxes (i do not buy dented cans) but some things are there just because the promotion on the box is no longer running or the company changed the packaging. They also have milk, bread, veggies and a few other lines of items that they buy whole sale. They have low over head so they can sell things cheaper. It is almost always full and today was no exception.
I got everything in the picture above for $20.xx. I needed milk and bread... everything else was a pantry filler.
Do you shop discount grocery stores?
P.S. - I forgot all about using cloth bags until I got home. UGH!!

I just discovered this woerd little home decorating store the other day. I had never been inside...then I found food that was BOGO making it $.50 a box and lots of others stuff. It was more like a dollar store, but ended up being cheaper with the BOGO sale. I'm going back this weekend to pick up some stuff.

I also found a Dolalr Star store at my mall that carries food. They run 2/$1 deals all the time on name brand foods with dented boxes. I stockpiled on cereal and oatmeal about a month ago. IT was like winning the lottery! LOL! Great deals in unexpected places.

That is a good bit of stuff for $20. We don't have anything like that in Tx.

Just curious what some of the prices are on the non food items.

Just wanted to say that you've inspired me to try cloth bags. We had gotten some free canvas totebags from our library, so I gave it a shot. I used them twice yesterday, the cashiers were very receptive, and my daughter was so excited to pack up our stuff! (She's 3) Every little bit helps, right?

oliveoyl64 - the febreese noticeable refills were 50¢ each (what a steal!), tp was 50¢ each, dented boxed of tissues were .70¢, mac and cheese was .35¢, lysol foaming tub cleaner was $1.25, juice bags were .15¢ each, birthday candles were .35¢ each but I have no clue what the milk cost. I needed that no matter what the price was. We have a state minimun price for milk here in PA and most people charge the same price.
Anonymous - I hope you are better at remembering to take them in the store with you than I am. I need to work on that!!

I have been reading your blog for a while now and just realized you live in PA also. The "Amish" store you are talking about could it be B and B? I live in CHBG.

YES Mandy!!! Do you go to the same store? This one is in Schaeffertown.

I did not realize there was more than one. I have been to the one in Newburg. I live about 45 minutes away from this store and after seeing your deals maybe I should make a trip.

I wish we had a store like that, love the prices

Thanks for the breakdown on prices. Now I wish we had something like that around here, especially with rising gas costs.

Milk runs close to $3 for 1/2 gal and between $5-$6 for gal. in my area. Sometimes it is a decision between a gal. of milk or gal. of gas.

Here's another site w/ hours and info about the BB's stores:

There was a similar store in Red Lion, PA called "D&K Grocery". It had less dented cans and more surplus from stores like Target and out of state grocery store chains.
