Going to Texas?

If I were going to Texas this summer, I would make sure we stopped in Orange, Texas to see the Stark Museum. They have several collections that I find interesting including Western Art, American Indian Art, Decorative Arts, and Rare Books and Manuscripts. This museum houses one of the nation’s most significant collections of American Western art.
The Stark Museum of Art in Orange, Texas, began as a vision of H.J. Lutcher Stark and his mother, Miriam Lutcher Stark, an enthusiastic collector of art, furniture, and decorative items from around the world. Lutcher Stark developed a similar passion for collecting, with a particular interest in nature and art depicting the American West. Both Miriam and Lutcher Stark shared the desire that one day a museum in Orange, Texas, would display the works of art they collected.
The Stark Museum of Art houses one of the finest collections of 19th and 20th century Western American art and artifacts in the country. The collection focuses on the stunning land, dramatic people, and diverse wildlife of the American West. The Museum also holds a significant collection of American Indian art as well as collections of glass and porcelain, and rare books and manuscripts.
Are you a home schooling family? This would an excellent educational trip! The Stark Museum of Art provides educational resources for the general public and for students, teachers, and researchers. To increase enjoyment and appreciation of the arts, the Museum uses the collections and exhibitions for object-based learning experiences. The museum offers educational programs to promote life-long learning experiences about the arts. Programs from book discussions to guest lectures provide opportunities to enhance enjoyment and understanding of the arts. Learn more about upcoming programs. Also, The Stark Museum of Art encourages children to develop an appreciation and understanding of the arts through interactive activities.

To find out more, visit the museum's website at Stark Museum of Art. I think you will find a few things that peak your interest.
