Catching up.....

I had a busy weekend so here is what I have to catch up on.......

I bought all of the above at CVS on Sunday for $1.03 out of pocket. I had $7 in ECB, $7 in store coupons and $6.00 in manufacturer's coupons. I used the Lady Speed Stick coupon mentioned here.... Frugal Finds From your Frugal Friend: Frugal Friday....... I also left the store with $17.97 in ECB's for next time!! We will smell good in this house, won't we!?!?

After CVS, we headed to Target, where I got all the above for $2.33 out of pocket. The egg dye was only 9 cents so it was hard to resist. Along with smelling well, we will be closely shaven too.

I picked up this blender at Target for $17.99 because we wanted to try smoothies after I read more about them here.... The Happy Foody Green Smoothie Challenge! « Happy Foody. The kids and I decided we wanted to try them. I started off with just a hand full of spinach because that part scared me. Results: we loved it! I bought a ton of fruit today so we can play with the recipes but the strawberry/banana/spinach smoothie was a huge hit with the kids. Next time I will add a little more spinach since we could not tell spinach was in this one at all. It was a nice healthy treat!

Looking for a college.....

This university has the best ads! Not only has US News and World Report has ranked Kettering University as "the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering" in its annual "America's Best Colleges Guide for 2008" but...... they have these great "stickman" ads that are so cute and fun to watch! I has such a fun time checking out their ads that I wanted to share one with you. Here is my favorite "stickman" ad.
US News Best Colleges has picked Kettering University as the #1 University in the nation for Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. This is very close to the type of degree that my husband has. His degree has proven to be very valuable to our family and one he can be proud of. We would be very happy for one of our children to get a degree from here.

I have a load of jeans hanging on the wash line to dry today... the first time this spring! DH planted our new grape vines yesterday. (It will be nice to grow our own grapes for the first time.) I started raking out the flower beds and see the flower bulbs peeking through the mulch. All signs that spring is here.

FAQ's about my dogs.....

In the last week and a half, I have had many many emails about my dogs. Some with kind words about our loss some with questions. I realized I never really filled in the pieces of that story cause I was just so upset.
Bailey was a pure breed beagle that we got when she was 8 weeks old. She slept in bed with DH and I and even laid on the sofa with me every night to watch tv. She was great with the kids too. She is greatly missed since she was such a huge part of our lives. We are not used to being able to find all our socks since she always took a sock anytime she could get ahold of one.
We do have another dog. He is 13. DH got him with his room mate the week after we started dating. He has been with us the entire time we have been together. BUT.... he is a larger dog who 1. is living on borrowed time at 13 2. has no interest in sleeping in bed with me and 3. can not hear anything so there is very little barking, which has left house very quiet! We do love this dog a lot and would be devastated if we lost him too but... he can not fill in the pieces that are left open since Bailey is gone.
Bailey did not die from Lyme disease. After i started treating her for Lyme, she was still getting worse. I took her back 2 days later and had to carry her into the vet. They felt she had a slipped disc and was obviously in a lot of pain. We tried treating her medically for 24 hours to see if we could make her any better. Just wishful thinking on our part. Our only other option would have been to take her to a specialist and hour away to have surgery. We were told up front that surgery would be about $4000 and could leave her paralyzed. That was just to much money for us to spend. As much as I miss her, I could not spend that much money and then have her end up paralyzed. Yes, I realize there are many dogs living with disabilities everywhere but that is not the life I thought she would want to live. She was a beagle who was very active... not a sit and look pretty dog. We did what we thought was best for our suffering dog. No judgement emails please!! My husband wanted to spare the kids and I of the pain so he went to the vet and held her while the Dr pushed the medicine. There was not a dry eye in the room.
We (or should I say I) looked frantically every where for a new dog. Not sure what I was looking for, I looked at everything. We went to a pet show at a local expo center, went to the mall pet store (i would never buy a dog there) searched the internet for breeders and shelters. After looking at a lot of dogs and have a family discussion, we have decided a new beagle puppy is what we all really want right now. We also decided when Our other dog (Rocco) is not longer with us, we will adopt a rescue dog that is a few years old. BUT.. we need a puppy to help heal our wounded hearts right now.
SO..... we have put a deposit on a new beagle pure bread from a very reputable breeder. The puppy is due to be born next week. We have even decided to cancel our summer vacation plans to stay home with our puppy since we do not think it is fair to board a puppy. I will post pictures as soon as I have some.
Thanks for all the kind emails I have received in the last week. I appreciate allt he kind thoughts and words. Now you know the whole story.

Home made Peanut Eggs:
2 lbs 10x sugar
1 1/2 cups of peanut butter
1/2 tsp salt
8 ox cream cheese
1/4 lb butter
-mix and let sit in fridge over night
- roll mixture into egg shaped balls
chocolate:
semi sweet baking chocolate
- for every 6 oz of chocolate, add 2T solid oil (i sometimes skip this)
- melt slowly in microwave
- dip roll eggs into melted chocolate with a toothpick and set on wax paper
- refrigerate for best results
ENJOY!! They are yummy! This is a recipe I have had for many many years.

Here is my son sitting nicely and opening his eggs like i told him to do while I take pictures of his sister collecting eggs at the egg hunt we went to. I forgot to tell him not to open the hard boiled eggs!! Thanks goodness Daddy found him while he was still trying to open the first hard boiled one. Hey, at least he listened to what I told him to do!! LOL

Monday.....

Yeah... we found beagle puppies. We put a deposit on a female beagle that has yet to be born. They are due in the next 10 days. I am even canceling my summer beach vacation so that we can stay home to care for our new baby. I am so excited. Bailey was such a big part of our lives so she is deeply missed and we just need to fill that void. We did look ay a lot of rescue dogs in the last few days and really liked several but.... we feel a beagle puppy is what we need right now. Our other dog is larger and he is 13. We all agreed as a family that when he is no longer with us, we will adopt a rescue dog that is a few years old and save a life. Now lets get some freebies!!!

What if.....

I have desperately been looking for Beagle puppies since our tragic loss last Thursday. I refuse to get a puppy from a puppy mill so I have been having a difficult time finding a new beagle puppy. I would love to adopt a rescue dog the next time I am in the market for a dog but, this time I need to find another beagle. The search has got me thinking...... what if, instead of pearls, oysters had puppies in them. I am not a fan of oysters but, at this point, I would be willing to eat a few oysters to get my puppy! My husband loves them and would be willing to eat oysters until he found a beagle puppy for us. Wouldn't that be wonderful? It would probably even be cheaper to eat oysters to find a pure breed puppy than buying one!!

Frugal Friday.....

Things have not been very frugal here this week. We've been eating out to avoid being in a house that seems to quiet. We even went to the mall last night to look at the puppies even thoigh I refuse to buy a dog from a mall store. Slowly we are getting better. Tomorrow we are going to an egg hunt and Sunday we will have an egg hunt at our house with a few friends. Have fun with these freebies!!

Wednesday....

Hillary was in Harrisburg, PA yesterday. I am going to Harrisburg today for DS's cardiology appointment. I would have loved to cross paths with her. I would love for my kids to see any candidate this year since it is such a history making election year. We have a few more weeks of until the PA primary so there should be a few chances for us to see at least one of the candidates.
My dog is very sick this week. I had her to the vet on Monday and she tested positive for Lyme disease. She was given 2 meds and sent home. She is worse today so we are headed back there this morning. I am really hoping everything will be ok. She really is one of the family. Update: At this moment things do not look good for the dog. I had to leave her at the vet and we will have to make a decision probably later today. Keep her in your prayers! Here is her picture.. she is only 3.

We bought Wii as a family gift at Christmas. We figured it would keep the kids active while indoors through the winter and give us something fun to do as a family. I have to warn you before you attempt to play Wii... I had a very sore shoulder this past Sunday from my very active efforts to win a few games against my husband last Saturday night. We had a blast but, I lost most games regardless of my huge effort. My should was back to normal by Tuesday.

I paid $1.72 for these items at CVS. I also made $8.00 in ECB's. The Hershey kisses will be great to stuff in plastic egg's for my Egg Hunt. I officially do not need anymore toothpaste until after Christmas!!

This pile of things cost $1.05 at Target. DD was with me and said she would eat the corn dogs. I am not sure she will like them... she did not notice that the are all veggie. I thought it was worth a shot for 99 cents. That is 18 string cheese in the picture too. I was actually down to one left here from the last batch of free string cheese.

I have Wii shoulder today from trying really hard to kick my husbands butt at the game Carnival Games last night. I even lost! I am in pain for nothing but, whatever does not kill me will only make me stronger... right? Even if it is only on Wii.

I got all the above for 5 cents!!! Can you believe it? I paid 5 cents out of pocket for all this at CVS on Sunday. I of course had some coupons and used $9.48 in ECB. I then left the store with $10.99 in ECB and I still have another $5 I need to spend before Tuesday so I will be going back beofre then to combine a few coupons with some ECB's to get another bag of goodies almost free!!
