It all started with wanting to take the kids to the orchard for a hayride, a pumpkin patch, and a corn maze. Maybe even a caramel apple. Look what we ended up with......
That is 55 pounds of apples that took both DD and I to carry. Thank goodness for the wagon. But.. we got them home.........
cut them up and let them simmer until soft................
then put them through the blender. I was so happy when I emptied the blender the first time and I had apple sauce!!
.... and poured it into containers to cool. I have them stored in the freezer for winter eating!

That was much easier than I thought it would be. I made 2 batches so far and have at least one more to go... maybe 2. DH liked it so much that he ate a whole container of it last night for snack!!
We got 55 pounds of apples at 35 cents a pound for a total of $19.50. If I only have 1 batch left, it will have cost 5 cents an ounce for organic apple sauce. DH seems t think I have 2 batches left to make so that would make it even cheaper. Not bad!

You can sure tell it's fall around here when the apples start cooking! We did apple butter with our orchard goodies :) I like the idea of the freezer containers - nice tackle and great memories for your kids!
Looks yummy! Great tackle!
Great tackle and great savings and great nutrition. Sounds like you had a win/win/win situation:-)
Great and yummy tackle! :D Thanks for sharing!
Hey there. Happy TMTT.

Yummy idea...we always come home with too many apples!
yum! my kids would love to do this. i will have to see if i can find us anywhere to go to pick apples.
I wish we had an orchard near here....
This recipe is great. We are having lots of apple recipes, today. My daughter loves apples. Thank you for sharing your recipe. I am just going to ask that in the future, would you also put a link back to our TMTT post. You don't have to use the button, just a link. Thanks.
Looks GOOD!
I bet your house smells amazing with all those apples simmering... I'm jealous! We're in Florida - no apple picking here! I am inspired, though, to go buy some and make some apple sauce!
Homemade applesauce is so good! Our friends brought some to our house last Friday and we ate it up over the weekend.
Yum! I need to make some, I think.
Thanks for the comment - my fridge is full because I just went grocery shopping to last the rest of the month. It'll be empty soon! LOL
That is awesome! i can't believe that it is that simple to make homemade organic applesauce. THanks for sharing! Yum! Found you on Tuesday Toot.
I'm so impressed! I wish I was motivated enough to do this. My kids love applesauce!!
