Free Carrots and Tea......

One of the most common excuses I hear about using coupons is "There are never coupons for things I buy" OR "there are never coupons for produce or meats." I agree, these do not come along as often as coupons for room spray or tampons but they do exist. You just have to take advantage of them when they do come along. Seize the moment! Stock up!


Go here.... Target : Grocery : Coupons + Weekly Store Specials and print as many coupons for carrots and Lipton tea as you would like. Really.. Target is OK with that!! Carrots are on sale at Super Targets this week for just 99 cents. That makes them free after coupon! Lipton tea has the single serve packets at the registers for $1.00. After coupon, these are free too.


What will you do with 20 packs of carrots? Eat some fresh, blanch and freeze some for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday meal. OR .... blanch and puree them to add to other meals.


A few months ago, I got this book.... Deceptively Delicious: Simple Secrets to Get Your Kids Eating Good Food, I learned how to add veggies to my meals to make them healthier. At first I would sneak it into the food and never tell the kids. After a while, I would tell them after they ate everything and loved it. Now they ask me to add the veggies cause it makes the food taste so much better.


A few months ago, we picked all the carrots from our garden. steamed the carrots, zucchini, onions and a garlic clove until soft. I then pureed everything and made sure there were no chunks. Chunks are what my kids hate! I then stuck them in these little bags and froze them. I pull on from the freezer when I am cooking and just add it to what ever is on the stove. I think it taste the best in a can of cheap spaghetti sauce.






So... go get free carrots and do the same thing!!

I froze carrots once, and they were soggy when I wanted to use them?

I would not suggest freezing raw carrots. You need to blanch them first when freezing whole. They will taste great when you steam them but you will not be able to eat them raw after freezing them.

A friend gave me that cookbook... it's great! Especially since I have a baby right now so am pureering food for her--and can use it for us too. I just blogged about how great recipe books are for meal ideas, and mentioned Jessica's book.

The Sneaky Chef is a real chef and the originator of the concept of blending and hiding vegetables. Jessica Seinfield, who was a media rep before marrying the one of the richest men in America, stole the idea and many of the recipes directly and is currently being sued for it. It really bothers me when people contribute to Jessica's bad behavour by buying her book. How much is enough? And how stupid does she think people are?
